President George Bush unveiled the details of his new plan for the war in iraq in a speech Wednesday.
He is trying to convince the American people -- and Congress -- that sending more US troops to Iraq "at this crucial moment" will "bring us closer to success" in Iraq.
"In the days ahead, my national security team will fully brief Congress on our new strategy. If Members have improvements that can be made, we will make them. If circumstances change, we will adjust. Honorable people have different views, and they will voice their criticisms."
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid say they weren't consulted on the President's plan to increase troops, and oppose the move.
