Serious Morning Accident Slows Traffic on Vaughn Road

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Feb. 20, 2007 -- A four vehicle accident backed up traffic on Vaughn Road early Tuesday morning.

The Montgomery Police Department has provided WSFA with the following updated information:

A Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling westbound on Vaughn Road when that vehicle apparently crossed the center line and side-swiped a 1995 Chevy Astro van that forced the van into 2002 Ford.  Then the Jeep collided head on with a 1988 Mercury Villager.

The driver of the Jeep is identified as Susan Horton of Montgomery and was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.  The driver of the van is identified as Christopher Williams of Wetumpka.

The driver of the Mercury is identified as Joyce Moye of Prattville, who sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Baptist Hospital.

All vehicles except one were traveling eastbound at the time of the accident.

Westbound traffic on Vaughn toward Perry Hill continued to flow with little problem.

A power outage, unrelated to the accident, previously reported was discovered to be centered in the area of Copperfield and Taylor, affecting 2,000 customers, but according to Alabama Power has now been resolved.  Spokeswoman Jan Ellis says there was a problem with a transformer which has now been rectified.
