Change in Command Monday at Auburn University

A change of command is in the works at Auburn University. Interim University President Ed Richardson was scheduled to pass the baton to new president Jay Gogue on Monday.

Richardson talked with WSFA 12 News Sunday about his 3-years in the top job and the sweeping changes he made. His efforts helped remove the school from probation and return it to a secure financial footing.

Auburn University recently reached its capital campaign goal of $500 million, nine months ahead of schedule. It's athletic department is also much better off financially than it was just three years ago.

Richardson says he hopes his work has left a legacy at Auburn.

"I hope my reputation is that I was able to correct those problems, turn the university in a positive direction and set it up for the next president, which was my major goal," Richardson said.

Richardson took the job after serving 8 years as state superintendent of education. He and his wife will return to their Montgomery home, but plan to build a new house in Auburn next year.

Incoming president Jay Gogue told WSFA 12 News in a previous interview, he respected the work performed by Richardson and is proud to inherit a much-improved university.

Gogue held former administrative positions at the University of Houston and New Mexico State University.
