Posted: Updated:

WSFA 12 News has learned through published reports that the Carroll County, Georgia coroner and Georgia Bureau of Investigation have concluded an autopsy of Benjamin Stanford's remains.

The report indicates Stanford died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Stanford's body was found Tuesday in a wooded area approximately 1000 feet from where authorities found his Jeep last week.

Stanford, who is the grandson of Alabama state senator Jim Preuitt, was last seen November 5th.

Governor Rile issued this statement: "Patsy and I express our heartfelt condolences to Senator Preuitt and his entire family.  Our prayers are with them during this very difficult time."
