The meth epidemic continues to be a problem across alabama, but over the weekend Morgan County law enforcement officers busted four people for resorting to a new way of making meth and it's concerning drug agents all over Alabama.

This new method is known as "Shake n' Bake" on the streets.

It uses standard meth ingredients, and a 2-liter soda bottle.

Crystal meth, it's toxic and one of the most addictive street drugs there is.

It's made with ingredients like salt, household drain opener, and liquid fire.

Meth users either smoke the drug, inhale it, or take it orally.

"[Meth users] stay high for eight to ten hours or 24 hours at a time where[as] the other drugs they are high for an hour or two at a time," says former Marshall County Drug Task Force Commander Ricky Phillips.

Phillips says there's a new way of making this drug and on the street, it's called shake and bake, "They mix all the stuff in the container and have to turn it upside down and shake it to get the chemicals mixed up and get the reaction started," he says.

It's a reaction that can cause an explosion.

On Saturday morning Morgan County drug agents arrested four people for having meth in their vehicle.

"If they are high on meth or consuming meth and involved in a car accident while they are traveling down the road, and nobody lets the pressure off [the bottle], you got a time bomb just waiting to go off."

That's why drug agents have to handle each container carefully.

Phillips says if you see a container that could be meth, it's best to call the police.

"If they pick the container up and start moving it, it's going to start the reaction back so best thing to do is leave it alone and call somebody in to take care of it."

Remember, if you suspect someone is involved with meth, and especially if you believe children are endangered please call the Stop Meth Tip-Line at 866-303-Meth.
