Montgomery, Ala (WSFA) -- Alabama's universities are dealing with a financial crisis.
It's been a week since the state legislature cut higher education by 11%.
With smaller budgets for next year schools are looking for ways to bring in more money.
Friday Auburn University announced they're going to recommend to the board of trustees a 12% hike in tuition.
The decrease in funding from the state means Auburn could see a shortfall of almost $43 million dollars.
Auburn board will meet on the 26th and 27th of June to decide if they'll approve the increase.
At Troy University they will be increasing their tuition.
Thursday Troy announced that in fall of 2008 they will now charge students $177 dollars per credit hour.
Before they only charged for the first eleven hours with prices varying for more than twelve hours.
At the University of Alabama they haven't made any word on tuition increases but they will be cutting jobs.
The university plans to cut 300 jobs throughout the system's campuses.
Alabama officials say they'll also be canceling construction projects. The capstone could see a decrease of $75 to $80 million dollars.
