Acid bomb charges dismissed against 4 UNA students

Posted: Updated:

FLORENCE, Ala. (AP) - Felony charges against four members of the University of North Alabama cross country team accused of detonating an acid bomb near fraternity row have been dismissed.

Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said he made the decision after conferring on Friday with Jim Glasso, head of UNA Public Safety.

No one was injured in the explosion last week, but the four may still face charges.

Connolly said he had not reviewed the case before the charges were filed and wants to let a grand jury consider the allegations to see if they warrant felony charges.

The four were accused of setting off a plastic soda bottle containing Drano in a roadway.

UNA officials said the four are no longer enrolled at the school and can't return until a disciplinary board resolves the matter.
