I was reminded recently just how long ago Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard, was indicted by a grand jury and charged with 23 class B felonies.  It was October of 2014; more than a year and a half ago. Delay after delay made me start to wonder if this trial would ever begin. Well, that time has come.

If you're going to get into birding -- even just backyard birding -- I strongly suggest that you keep a "life list" of all the birds you have seen and can identify. Because if you don't, and decide later that you would like to, putting together an accurate and complete list of birds you have seen in the past will be difficult if not impossible. Keeping bird lists can be as simple as you would like, or incredibly complicated.

Another legislative session is in the books, and it looks like another special session is on the way. The 2016 legislative session went on with little fanfare compared to recent years. Both budgets were passed early on, though the General Fund and the issue with Medicaid funding will probably bring legislators back in late summer.

Birding can be a daunting hobby for someone who is just starting. It's easy to spot a sparrow; even easy to recognize a Chipping Sparrow from a Song Sparrow, for instance. But toss in Field Sparrows, Swamp Sparrows, Savannah Sparrows, and Grasshopper, Le Conte's, Seaside, Fox, Lincoln's, Vesper ... well, you get the idea ... and getting serious about birding can be frustrating for many people.
