Gregory Ray BrooksHuntsville, Al. (Information Courtesy WAFF-TV) -- A convicted sex offender is in custody after attempting to take a 14-year old girl to a school dance.
25-year old Gregory Ray Brooks of Athens, Alabama was arrested Friday evening on charges of public intoxication and violation of the community notification act after loitering on school property.
Brooks arrived at the Athens Middle School dance with a 14-year old girl and was stopped by faculty members at the door.
Brooks fled the scene after a security gaurd began talking to a witness.
He was aprehended at a local laundromat where police determined he was a sex offender, convicted of sodomy 1st degree in 2004.
Brooks was taken to the Limestone County Jail.
School officials say he did not come into contact with any children and no children were in danger.
