GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Investigators with the Gwinnett County Police Department tell CBS Atlanta News they are looking into why the pedestrian was in the roadway to begin with.

She's identified as Natina Reed. Reed was a member of an Atlanta R&B group named Blaque. She was struck and killed Friday night along Lawrenceville Highway just two days before her birthday.

Reed was in the roadway near Hamilton Road when she was struck by a vehicle around 10:30 p.m., according to preliminary police reports. The driver of the vehicle called 911. When police and fire units arrived, they were told that someone at the scene had performed CPR on Reed.

Reed was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m.

A public relations company for the musical group Blaque issued this statement to CBS Atlanta.

On Behalf of Blaque and the entire Left Eye Music Family:

"We are devastated by the loss of our group member, sister and friend Natina Reed. Because of the enormous support of Blaque fans and our love for each another, Blaque officially reunited this fall and we were in the process of working on a new album and a reality show. Natina continuously embodied the pioneering spirit of Blaque and her undeniable creativity touched the hearts of fans everywhere. Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend. We ask for your prayers at this time for Natina's family. She will forever be missed and her global influence eternally felt. We thank God for the experiences we shared."

Local artists and producers attending Atlanta Hip Hop Day in downtown Atlanta commented on the singer's untimely death.

"It's kind of sad. Blaque, that was my group. That boom, that was my jam, I really send my condolences out to her family," said Luney Tunez, producer/artist.

The Gwinnett Police Department Accident Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation. There are no charges pending against the driver who is not considered at fault in the accident, according to investigators. There are no additional witnesses beyond the driver and passenger. Their names are being withheld until the investigation is concluded.

Had she lived, Reed would have been 33.
