Man wanted in Virginia, Florida arrested in Geneva

GENEVA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a 56-year-old man who is wanted in Virginia and has pending felony charges in Florida.

Geneva Police Lt. Ricky Morgan said John Steven Carter was found hiding in an abandoned trailer in some woods Wednesday morning. He said Carter had used the alias Joe Bennet and the arrest resulted from tip received Friday. Morgan said Carter had been in the area for three months but has been on the run for five years.

Police say Carter is wanted in Florida for crimes including trafficking marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Chief Deputy Joe McLaughlin of the New Kent County Sheriff's Office in Virginia said Carter's wanted there on felony charges including forgery of public documents, and unlawful disposal of a dead body.
