State farmers meeting with Obama administration

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- More than 200 Alabama farmers are in the nation's capital this week.   They're talking to lawmakers about a rule change proposed by the Obama administration.

The new policy would make farmers with more than $500,000 in sales ineligible for certain federal aid programs.

Farmers want the government to figure production costs into the equation, as well.

The Obama administration says the rule change would save $9.8 billion over ten years, but the Alabama Farmers Federation says it would hurt family farms.
