Mom's boyfriend arrested for infant's murder

LEE COUNTY, AL -- Authorities in Lee County have arrested a mother's boyfriend on Capital Murder charges after her 14-month-old son died Sunday.

Kenneth Gerald Jones, Jr. is being held without bond at the Lee County Jail. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.

Authorities received a 911 call Sunday around 10:30a.m. stating that a baby was unresponsive at a residence in the 8900 block of Lee Road 240 in Smiths Station.

Friendship Volunteer Fire Department personnel and Lee County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and continued CPR that was already in progress. East Alabama Medical Center EMS arrived and rushed the baby, who was not identified, to Jack Houston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, the nearest medical facility. Efforts to revive the baby were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

A preliminary investigation did not indicate foul play at the time, but at the autopsy findings proved the baby died as a result of a homicide. Autopsy findings indicated the boy died from blunt force head injuries.
