Dothan, Ala. (WSFA) - Ron Bedford has walked many a mile for veterans. Ten years ago he walked from Mobile, Alabama to Washington D.C. to raise money for the construction of the World War II Memorial.
Ten years later he's walking again, this time to send veterans to see their memorial.
"We have so many veterans in our area and it's taking care of our own," explained Bedford.
Bedford is organizing a 56 hour non-stop walk at the Northside Mall in Dothan. Bedford says this is way to honor those that gave so much.
"It means so much to give back to them, and we don't say thank you enough and this is one way that we can get out and say thanks for a job that you've done," says Bedford.
The first flight is in less than two months, so the board of directors is hoping this event is the push needed to reach their ultimate goal.
"We have raised just over 85 thousand dollars and our goal is 130 thousand dollars, so we're just a little under were we want to be," explained Jim McGhee, of the Wiregrass Chapter of Honor Flight.
The wiregrass chapter has already planned a second flight for September 19.
