MONTGOMERY, AL -- The City of Montgomery announces the 5th Annual Unity Games at Faulkner University in Tine Davis Gymnasium on March 28, 2009 beginning at 5:00 p.m. - the event is FREE. The Unity Games consist of two basketball games (male and female) comprised of high school seniors. This is not a fundraiser but an event designed to convey a positive image of our youth while creating a wholesome atmosphere to express racial harmony. The Unity Games are unique because it combines public and private schools, not only to play basketball but to fellowship with those who are usually opponents. This year all Montgomery public high schools and private schools (with ONE exception) are participating; in addition we have invited schools from the tri-county area with a record number of 21 schools participating in the 2009 Unity Games.
There will be a cash prize drawing during halftime of each game and other various door prizes. Throughout the event, there will be t-shirts, hats, golf towels and other items given away to those in attendance.
Back this year is the always popular Media Shoot-Out contest. The media contest will take place between the girls and boys basketball game and will be emceed by Rick Hendrick. Also, the BWT Show Choir will perform.
The Unity Award presented every year to individuals or a local organization that has pledged and shown efforts of unity, will be presented Robert and Jeanne Graetz.
