Soldiers who are serving on combat duty after their enlistment ends will begin receiving bonuses this week.

It's good to see a group actually earning their bonus money and we applaud Congress for passing a law last Fall to make it happen.

It's too bad it has taken this long for the bonus checks of $500 a month to actually start!

More than 13,000 soldiers are affected.

Better news still is starting this summer, the practice of allowing the military to keep a soldier on duty if the soldier's combat unit deploys within 90 days of the end of their enlistment will be phased out.

The strain on the families of these soldiers is considerable.

We appreciate their sacrifice and are glad to see some of our tax money being used well with bonuses for these soldiers!
