Houston Co. and Dothan schools being delayed

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News is confirming reports that Houston County Schools and the Dothan City School system will delay the start of classes Wednesday morning.

Bus routes will begin at 8:15am and classes will start at 10am. School officials say any additional updates will be made by 7:30am Wednesday morning so watch Today in Alabama for the latest updates.


The Houston County Sheriff's Office is putting out a call for volunteers to help fill sandbags at the Farm Center in preparations for upcoming rains. Anyone that can donate time is asked to help out. Click here for directions.


As a result of the recent weather activity, lane closures are in effect on Horace Shepherd Drive and Curry Street, but both roads are passable for local traffic. Repair work is ongoing on the portion of Flowers Chapel Road that falls within the City limits of Dothan.

The following roads have reopened in the City of Dothan: Fortner Street, Brookside Drive, Pleasant Valley Drive, Mimosa Drive, Burdeshaw Street, and Dunn Road. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution or avoid these areas if possible.

Dothan police are asking all citizens to stay off the roads during the heavy rain and to avoid driving through or playing in standing water is you must be out. They are also stressing that driving arounc marked barricades or street closure signs is illegal.


The Fort Rucker Department of Public Works says Christian Road has been closed "indefinately". Traffic using Faulkner Gate and Lowe Field from Christian Road or Whitaker Roads should detour to Artillery, Farrell, Lowe Field and Traffic Minder roads.
