Gov. appoints new Pike Co. probate judge

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley has appointed Troy University athletics official Wes Allen to serve as Pike County Probate Judge.

The vacancy was created by the retirement of Bill Stone, who served in the post for 14 years.

"I am pleased to appoint Wes Allen Probate Judge of Pike County," said Governor Riley. "The position of Probate Judge is a critical one for every county in Alabama. Wes has clearly demonstrated that he is more than capable of handling the task, and I know the people of Pike County will be pleased with the job he will do as their Probate Judge."

The governor said Allen is "capable of handling the task."

Allen, a University of Alabama graduate and former Crimson Tide football player, said he "looks forward to serving the people of Pike County. I just appreciate the faith Governor Riley has placed in me appointing me to this position," Allen said. "I look forward to serving the people of Pike County to the best of my ability."

Allen's appointment is effective immediately.
