MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State government is canceling for one year an annual event it uses to recruit industry to the state.
State Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley says the state canceled the Governor's One-Shot Turkey Hunt for this year because of the soft economy and concerns about whether sponsors could participate.
A spokesman for Gov. Bob Riley, Todd Stacy, says the administration hopes the event can return in 2010 because it has been successful.
The event brought industrial prospects to Alabama to socialize and hunt.
The cancellation came after Alabama's unemployment hit a 22-year high.
