Napping robbers get police wake-up call

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Three suspects who took a nap shortly after allegedly robbing a Jefferson County store of cash and cigarettes got a wake up call from police that landed them in jail.

24-year-old Jonathan Henry Gadson, 21-year-old Wimberley Edward Scott and a 16-year-old male were caught hours later when police found them asleep in a van at an apartment parking lot about 100 feet from Tobacco Express about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Gadson and Scott were taken to the county jail also on third-degree burglary charges. Jefferson County sheriff's Lt. Randy Christian said Gadson was also charged with possession of burglary tools.

The teen was taken to Family Court on a burglary charge.

The money and cigarettes were returned to the store owner.

It was not clear if Gadson or Scott had lawyers Wednesday.
