PAC bill likely to die again in Alabama Senate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Legislation to ban the transfer of money between political action committees is likely to die in the Alabama Senate again.

The Senate Constitution and Elections Committee couldn't get enough members to show up Thursday to consider a bill banning the movement of money between PACS.

The sponsor, Republican Sen. Arthur Orr of Decatur, says he had similar bills die in 2007 and 2008.

With the Legislature in the final third of its 2009 session, Orr says it appears his bill won't go anywhere this year.

The House passed legislation in February to ban PAC-to-PAC transfers, but a Senate committee has never considered that bill either.
