MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - State health regulators have unanimously approved a $72 million expansion and renovation for Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham.
The project will give the West End hospital 90,000 square feet of new space to replace its operating and endoscopy rooms with large, modern facilities.
The expansion also will give the hospital a new main entrance as well as new waiting and admissions areas.
Princeton's current, cramped operating rooms date back to 1966 and some date back to the 1940s.
Plans also call for renovating 60,000 square feet to create a new chapel, turning operating rooms into recovery rooms for surgical patients and bringing critical care units up to current safety codes.
