GOP Sen. Hank Erwin enters Lt. Gov. race

PELHAM, Ala. (AP) - State Sen. Hank Erwin of Montevallo has launched a Republican campaign for lieutenant governor.

The two-term senator announced his candidacy Sunday in Pelham. The 60-year-old Erwin is the first Republican to announce for next year's lieutenant governor election.

Democratic incumbent Jim Folsom Jr. is seeking re-election and remains unopposed for his party's nomination.

Erwin described himself as a senator who has pushed for restrictions on abortion and fought new taxes and gun control.
