Ala. player signs with Mississippi St.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State has signed Wendell Lewis of Selma, Ala., to a national letter of intent. The announcement was made Wednesday by head basketball coach Rick Stansbury.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Lewis averaged 14 points, 12.5 boards and 2.4 blocks a game as a senior.

He earned all-state honors and was instrumental in leading his team to a 21-11 record that included a berth in the Class 5A Alabama high school tournament.

Lewis is the Bulldogs second signee. Earlier, Stansbury signed Shaunessy Smith, a 6-6, 200-pound guard out of Noxubee County High School in Macon.
