Former Ags ask Holder to look into Siegelman case

A bipartisan group of 75 former state attorneys general from across the country have asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to investigate the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

The former attorney generals asked Holder to conduct an investigation similar to the one that led to the Justice Department dropping its case against former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Holder on April 1 asked a judge to toss out the corruption conviction of Stevens because prosecutors withheld evidence from his defense team during the trial.

In the letter, the attorneys general told Holder that if similar misconduct is found in the Siegelman case, the conviction of the once-popular Democrat should be dismissed.
