State legislators honor Ala. hero

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- The Alabama legislature took time out of its regular business Thursday to single out deserving police officers for the Legislative Medal of Honor.

Officer Larry Sharpley of the Decatur police department rescued a man from a submerged vehicle, then performed CPR saving the man's life.

Two Montgomery officers, Cpl Denise Barnes and Cpl J. T. Davis, were also nominated for the award for rescuing a family from a burning house before the fire was even called in.

Eight other officers were nominated for the award, including Sergeant Roger Cender and officers Steven McGowing and Cody Warren with the Andalusia police department.
