5 Troy trustees approved by Senate

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has approved five trustees that Gov. Bob Riley selected for Troy University and one he picked for the University of West Alabama.

The Senate voted Thursday to approve the governor's reappointment of Montgomery lobbyist Lamar Higgins, former state Sen. Gerald Dial of Lineville, state Banking Superintendent John Harrison of Luverne and state Farm Insurance executive Karen Carter of Birmingham as Troy trustees.

The Senate also approved the governor's appointment of retired Air Force Gen. Ed Crowell of Pike Road to the Troy board.

All the Troy appointments except Dial's were passed 29-0. The Senate voted 12-9 for Dial.

The Senate also voted 29-0 to approve the governor's selection of Randy Hillman of Wilson as a trustee of West Alabama. Hillman is executive director of the Alabama District Attorneys Association.
