Montgomery Barnes & Noble closing

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- WSFA 12 News has confirmed one of the last anchor stores at the intersection of Troy Highway and East Boulevard will close this summer.

Barnes & Noble officials say the store will shut its doors in June.  They cited slow sales as the reason for the shutdown.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said, "It's tough for major stores in that area to stay open. National companies have to make their own decisions predicated on their own national marketplace, and national companies have more stringent requirements of profit and loss than perhaps the locally owned stores."

The store, which officially shuts down June 30th, was the only location in the river region.
