Judge approves Bruno's auction results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge has approved the sale of the Birmingham-based Bruno's Supermarkets chain to a grocery wholesaler.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Benjamin Cohen on Monday approved the sale of the bankrupt grocery chain to Southern Family Markets of Birmingham, the retail arm of New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers. Bruno's, which has 56 stores in Alabama and the Florida panhandle, sold them for $45.8 million. Southern Family Markets plans to continue operating 31 stores, but 25 will be closed and sold.
