Auburn city councilman not apologizing

Folks filled Auburn City Hall Tuesday night to voice their concerns about a councilman pulling up confederate flags at grave sites.  The city council asked councilman Arthur Dowdell to apologize for his actions in a resolution he objected to.  Dowdell apologized for the misunderstanding about the flags being placed in honor of Confederate Memorial Day.  However, Dowdell says he is not apologizing for pulling them up.  "If I as a city councilman had known that the Daughters of the Confederacy had put those flags out, maybe we would have a different outcome.  As far as feeling sorry about that flag and if I feel that I did something remiss, I do not feel bad," says Dowdell.

City officials say they don't condone the councilman's actions.
