MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A federal judge ordered former Auburn and NFL player Leonardo Carson jailed pending trial on drug charges.
U.S. Magistrate Judge William Cassady granted that request from prosecutors, writing that Carson "cannot run from his past."
A grand jury indicted Carson in March on charges of conspiring to sell more than 50 grams of crack cocaine, more than 5 kilograms of powder cocaine and more than 20 kilograms of marijuana.
The judge wrote that the 32-year-old Carson isn't a flight risk but said he presents a threat to the community.
Carson's lawyer has withdrawn from the case due to an unspecified conflict. Carson was drafted by San Diego in 2000 and played defensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys before being cut in 2005.
