MPD search for a killer in weekend shooting

Posted by: Matt Stanley - bio | email

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- One man is dead and Montgomery police are searching for a killer. The shooting happened early Saturday morning.   Authorities tell WSFA 12 News 20 year old Courtney Givan is officially a wanted man. A warrant has been issued for the murder of 22 year old Javarion Wright.

Police say the shooting happened around midnight. A fight inside an apartment at the Bristol Downs complex off of Carmichael Road.  The fight quickly escalated and that's when authorities say Givan pulled out a handgun, shot Wright in the chest, and fled the scene. Police then found Wright unresponsive just outside the door of the apartment.  They pronounced him dead on the scene.

Both the suspect and victim, we're told, did not live at the complex.  Authorities won't say what started the fight, but tell us this was not a random act of violence.

Police consider Courtney Givan armed and dangerous. If you see him, keep your distance, and call the Montgomery police department at 241-2651.

This is the city's 13th murder of the year.
