MPD officer involved in fatal shooting

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is working a fatal shooting involving a Montgomery Police officer.

Around 2am police responding to a disturbance call in the 3700 block of Wesley Drive found a mother and daughter suffering from minor injuries. The mother, 39, had a laceration to her hand and the daughter, 20, had a cut on her stomach according to authorities.

Both women said an aquaintance attacked them with a kitchen knife and tried to rape the daughter, who is six months pregnant.

When the officers tried to go inside the home they reported that a man in his 20's physically attacked them and tried to wrestle away an officer's gun. Officers shot the man, who died a short time later at Baptist South Hospital.

One officers reported minor injuries but did not require treatment beyond that given on scene.

The shooting victim's name has not been released.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation's involvment is routine when someone is involved in a shooting with police.
