Update: Child hit by SUV

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - WSFA 12 News has an update on a a 4-year-old girl who was struck by an SUV Thursday evening.

The child, who is not being identified, was transported to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. Her status was availble. She was suffering from head injuries when authorities arrived on the scene.

Montgomery Police Department spokesman Major Huey Thornton said the accident happened in the 4000 block of Court Street Thursday evening.

The girl was walking down the street with several other children when authorities say she ran off the sidewalk and into the path of a GMC Suburban.

Emergency rescue units rushed the little girl to Baptist South Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Thornton said it appears that this case is a pedestrian violation and charges are not expected against the driver.
