MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - One day after announcing his candidacy for Alabama attorney general, Luther Strange sat down for an exclusive interview with WSFA 12 News.

Strange launched his campaign Wednesday via an online videotaped statement, which was posted to his web site. In the video, the Birmingham lawyer questioned the integrity of Attorney General Troy King, citing specific examples of alleged unethical behavior.

King is the target of a federal grand jury investigation, but the specifics of the case are unknown.

King said Strange's video distorted his record and called it "gutter politics."

In his interview with WSFA 12 News, Strange described his comments not as criticism, but a simple statement of facts.

He also talked about his stance on gambling and his goals for the attorney general's office. If elected he says he would clarify Alabama's gambling laws, crack down on crime, and restore integrity to the office.

Strange and King are the only announced candidates so far, but the primaries are not until June 2010.
