DECATUR, Ala. (AP) - The Decatur City Council has approved its portion of an $8 million project to put a college campus downtown offering four-year degrees in visual arts and entertainment studies.
Monday's resolution commits the city to paying $800,000 over a three-year period beginning in fiscal 2010.
The city will also donate the former Robinson Building, Decatur Utilities warehouse and the Elks Lodge for the project, which also involves Calhoun Community College and Athens State University.
The Morgan County Commission approved its $800,000 contribution last week.
Advocates of the project said it will help downtown redevelopment efforts.
