ALDOT officials prepare for hurricane season

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- Hurricane season is less than two weeks away and the Alabama Department of Transportation wants to make sure they're ready.

Wednesday, nearly 200 state workers conducted a rehearsal of reversing the southbound traffic on Interstate 65 making it one huge northbound exit route. The roads weren't actually closed.

They practiced coordinating all of the cell centers to make sure those employees know what to do in case an evacution is ordered.

State officials are also planning to use the 211 number to take non-critical assistance calls.

Hurricane season starts June 1st.
