DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A man accused of taking law enforcement officers on a chase through Dothan could be the first in Houston County, and possibly the state, to face a felony for attempting to elude police.
Houston County sheriff's Capt. Antonio Gonzalez said 34-year-old Darren Anglin of Dothan was also charged with drug possession after deputies recovered a bag of cocaine allegedly thrown from the vehicle during Thursday's pursuit.
Gov. Riley signed the Keith Houts Act into law Wednesday, making it a felony to try to elude law officers. Previously the offense was a misdemeanor. The law was named after a Montgomery police officer who was slain during a traffic stop in 2006.
Anglin was being held without bond.
