Covering Autauga County: Repair to begin on Highway 82

Prattville, Ala. (WSFA)-- Work is set to begin repairing the sinkhole on Highway 82. Governor Bob Riley signed off on the emergency project after the flood waters caused a washout.

According to state transportation officials, the repairs should be finished in less than a month.

"We've got an emergency contract underway with work going on," said Tony Harris of the Department of Transportation.  "We think it will take about 20 days, but we've given the contractor an incentive that if he finishes the work in less than 20 days he gets a $5,000 bonus for each day early."

The Federal Emergency Agency is still assessing the flood damage in Central Alabama to determine whether federal money will help pay for the repairs.
