Prominent attorney and civic leader dies

Montgomery, Ala. (WSFA) -- Over the weekend, the legal community in Montgomery and Alabama lost a longtime attorney and dedicated civic leader. Maury Smith died Sunday.

The Geneva, Alabama native and World War II veteran founded two law firms, served as an assistant state attorney general and a deputy district attorney for Montgomery county. Smith also led many civic and business groups.

Smith will be laid to rest following a funeral at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.

He was 82 years old.
