OPP, Ala. (AP) - A teenage babysitter who authorities believed had run away from a North Carolina home with a 9-month-old girl has been found safe with the baby in Alabama.

Hoke County, N.C., Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Thursday night that 17-year-old Renesha Shante Griner had convinced a former boyfriend that the baby was his and traveled to his home in Opp. That's approximately 675 miles southwest of Raeford, N.C.

Peterkin said the baby, Saniya Jaynelle Purcell, is safe and unharmed.

He said sheriff's deputies were driving to Alabama late Thursday night with the baby's mother and grandmother to bring the child back to North Carolina.

The sheriff said Griner was being held for questioning by police in Opp.

No charges have been filed.
