Hwy 82 reopens after flood repairs

PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Commuters can once again use U.S. Highway 82 through Autuaga County. The road was closed in early May because of flood damage, but the Alabama Department of Transportation says those repairs are complete.

Portions of the road collapsed May 7 as torrential rains and flooding hit areas surrounding the capital city.

The W.S. Newell company won a bid to repair the roadway at a cost of just under $600,000. The project, slated to last twenty days, finished 8 days ahead of schedule.

We realized the need to get this project underway and completed as quickly as possible due to the significant amount of daily traffic that uses this highway," said Transportation Director Joe McInnes. "All those involved in the project deserve a pat on the back for repairing this major artery in such a timely manner."
