UAB cuts 245 jobs

BIRMINGHAM, AL. (AP)-- The University of Alabama at Birmingham says it is cutting 245 jobs after a product performance review under the university's Bridge to the Future plan.

Will Fernaiany, UAB Health Systems CEO, initiated the plan and says the plan's goal is to make sure UAB is able to meets health car delivery, educational and financial demands while providing the highest quality of care.

UAB Hospital, UAB Highlands and the UAB Health System in Birmingham said they are eliminating 164 positions and shifting 81 workers into jobs now held under contracts for non-patient care support services.

Workers whose positions are cut will receive severance packages.
