JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Jacksonville State has appealed a one-year postseason ban imposed by the NCAA on the football program.
The Gamecocks were one of three schools with teams banned from postseason play for the upcoming season after failing to meet NCAA academic progress standards for a third straight year.
University attorney Randy Woodrow told The Anniston Star that the appeal was filed Tuesday.
Woodrow declined to offer details of the appeal because of a gag order the NCAA placed on the university when it appeared before the Committee on Academic Performance on March 27.
The NCAA has upheld postseason bans for the Centenary (La.) College men's basketball program and the Tennessee-Chattanooga football program.
