Flag tribute draws criticism from Opelika workers

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - A flag tribute for three Michelin employees who were aboard the Air France Flight that went down over the Atlantic has drawn criticism from some workers at Opelika's BFGoodrich plant.

The plant, owned by Michelin, is to close in October. Flags located at Michelin facilities around the world are being flown at half-staff through Friday in tribute to the three who died, including President of Michelin South America Luis Roberto Anastacio.

BFGoodrich employee Al Prickett thinks the move shows disrespect for the American flag and it would be more appropriate to fly a French flag at half-staff.

He said employees at the Opelika plant have had family members fight and die in Afghanistan and Iraq and the plant did not fly the American flag at half-staff for them.
