Layoffs for one Tallapoosa county school system

Alexander City, Ala. (WSFA) -- Proration and the slow economy affects another Alabama school system.

Alexander City Schools Superintendent Lou Ann Wagoner confirms 24 positions will be eliminated.

Wagoner says the reduction in state funds, decline in sales tax revenue and a drop in city school system attendance were all factors.

But, she tells WSFA 12 News she is optimistic stimulus funds will help re-hire those who were cut.
