The Montgomery Housing Authority is clearing the way for a new community. The remaining old set of buildings at Tulane Court will be demolished, making way for a new kind of public housing.
The Montgomery Housing Authority is building town homes and apartment style communities. Demolition will begin later this year. They hope to start construction late next year or early 2011. The project will be done in phases. The first phase will include about 170 units.
Executive Director of the Montgomery Housing Authority, Evette Hester says it will be a community of choice. "To make it a community of choice we're planning to put mixed income units on the property so we can attract a cross section of the community," says Hester.
