MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama football signee Desmond Jennings is having a terrific season in pro baseball.
Jennings is batting leadoff for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits and trying to work his way up in the Tampa Rays' organization.
He ranked fourth in the Southern League in batting, third in runs and second in hits entering Tuesday's games.
Jennings was a three-sport star for Pinson Valley High School and signed a football scholarship with the Tide in 2005.
He failed to qualify academically and enrolled at Itawamba Community College in Mississippi, where he became an All-America wide receiver and starred in baseball.
The Rays drafted him in the 10th round.
Baseball America ranked him Tampa Bay's fifth-best prospect this season.
