Former Covington commissioner arrested for theft

OPP, Ala. (AP) - A former Covington County commissioner and his wife are accused of stealing an estimated $230,000 in fuel from an Opp distributing company.

The commissioner, 36-year-old Myron Kent Colquett, and his wife, 53-year-old Cynthia Colquett, were booked into the Covington County Jail Monday on property theft charges and released on $30,000 bond.

Efforts to reach the Colquetts were unsuccessful Wednesday.

District Attorney Greg Gambril said the incident occurred about three years ago when Colquett was a commissioner.

The Colquetts, while running their Colquett Oil Company business, allegedly stole 80,000 gallons of gas from Opp councilman Mickey Crew's business, Crew Distributing.

Conflicts arose concerning the investigation so law enforcement turned it over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

The case was presented to a grand jury last week.
