TROY, AL (WSFA) - A Pike County murder suspect has died in the hospital.

Bob Pittman, 90, was admitted to the hospital last week after he stopped eating and drinking at the Pike County Jail.

He'd been in lockup for several weeks on a $100,000 bond.

Pittman was accused of murdering 82-year-old Doris Adams at her Troy home on May 12.

Family members found her unresponsive at her home on Brundidge Boulevard. There didn't appear to be any signs of forced entry and all the doors were locked.

While a motive was never released by authorities, Pittman was developed as a suspect in the city's first homicide of the year.

The case will continue on without the prime suspect, however.

Officials say they will still present the case to a grand jury. Among things, they want to determine are Pittman's guilt and whether or not he acted alone.
